Awards

For over 13 years, the Wylie East Solar Car Team has consistently excelled in the Solar Car Challenge, particularly in the Advanced Classic Division. Our team has demonstrated incredible innovation and dedication, securing multiple podium finishes. Most notably, we achieved First Place in 2024, a crowning accomplishment in our history. In addition, we earned Second Place in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023, showcasing our ability to consistently compete at the highest level against some of the nation’s most talented teams.

These accomplishments reflect the hard work and ingenuity of our team members and mentors, as well as the support of our school and community. Our success is a testament to the spirit of collaboration and commitment that defines the Solar Car Challenge and inspires students nationwide to innovate in renewable energy technologies.

2024 Track Race

After 11 years of competing we won first place and set a new record 524 laps a total of 786 miles in just 4 days

2023 Fort Worth to El Paso

We won 2nd Place in the 2022 Advanced Classic Division with a total of 430.2 miles. The first-place team in our division traveled  457.3 miles. The Race was cut short do to a covid outbreak across all teams and race staff.

2022 Track Race

We won 2nd Place for the 2022 Advanced Classic Division with a total of 437 laps or 655.5 miles! The first place team in our division traveled 467 laps for a total of 700.5 miles.

2021 Track Race

We won 2nd Place for the 2021 Advanced Classic Division with a total of 385 laps or 577.5 miles! The first place team in our division traveled 393 laps for a total of 589.5 miles. 

2019 Track Race

We won 2nd Place for the 2019 Advanced Classic Division with a total of 324 laps or 486 miles! The first place team in our division traveled 326 laps for a total of 489 miles.

2018 Cross Country Race

We Traveled 478.4 miles over a 7 day period. The first place team in the division traveled a total of 544.4 miles. we lost the race on day 6 when are motor blow out. Causing us to we have to repair it on the starting line. 

To win the 2019 Track Race we have redesigned the solar panel configuration so that we can charge the car faster. We also switched Telemetry from WiFi to LoRa (Long Range) to allow for more reliable data collection. To reduce losses, we have reduced the car by 200 pounds, The drivers by almost 75 pounds and have changed our battery set up to run longer and charge faster.

2017 Track Race

We Traveled 302 laps over a 4 day period for a total of 453 miles. The first place team in our division traveled 370 laps for a total of 555 miles.
