T-155 – Wheels on the Ground

by Feb 11, 2020Journal

We are Back in full swing. As said in our last post, 168 days ago, we began on project Helios; now, 6 months later, we are happy to be able to give you a sneak peek into what we are working on. For the first 2 months of the school year, begin designing the new car, molding it after a perigean falcon, which is a bird capable of reaching 200 mph in 3D software like Rhino and Solid Works. During this process, we were able to design a car that would be 300 pounds lighter than last year’s car. Then, on November 12, our design became a reality, and we used a CNC plasma cutter to cut out the bedpan of the car. The problem is that during the school year, it became a lot harder for us to build the car during the week, and when we did have the time, it took us a lot longer to get stuff done than during the summer. In order to solve this, we began looking for a skilled welder in Mr.Rosebery’s Advance Welding II class, and after a lot of convincing, we gained a new member, my brother, Andrew O’Grady. With his help, we have been able to expedite the process of building the car. By Christmas Break, we had built around the bedpan and added a backtire
